Bill Lewis introduced rattling sound into fishing lures over 50 years ago. Many will argue that it is one of the best lures ever made. In fact, Outdoor Life magazine referred to Rattle Trap? as the “Most Influental Fishing Lure” of all time in their Hall of Fame fishing lure article. This lure produces sound that is nearly identical to the sound made by distressed baitfish, which leads to attracting predator fish and stimulating an aggressive feeding response. This simple-to-use lipless crankbait is a must to have for locating and catching fish.

This pattern is designed specifically for throwing at resting or "laid up" tarpon. The combination of materials give the fly a slower sink rate which helps keep the fly in front of the fish longer, enticing the grab. The barring on the marabou tail adds attraction and helps make this one of the "must have" patterns for any tarpon angler.

An excellent, classic Tarpon fly, with a black and red color combo that looks great in the water and offers good contrast. When tarpon are in the mood, this fly gets very positive eats.

Designed initially for those on the east coast of Florida, this surface popping shrimp was a custom fly that turned into a much sought production pattern. It has been a key pattern for those on Biscayne Bay, the Keys and Everglades for snook and bonefish, as well as those targeting saltwater salmon in Puget Sound and Alaska.

Largemouth bass love to ambush it as it hovers near lily pads, and it’s also a killer baitfish imitation in clear water flats and bays, when you need something subtle that can be inched and scooted along in shallow water for stripers and blues. And yet, despite its backcountry pedigree, raging albies and small tuna in the rips also love to hammer it, because it swims so naturally.

RIO's Smelling Salt was designed with the laid up tarpon in mind, with a soft landing presentation, foul preventing mono loop under the tail, and neutral buoyancy for a perfect fishing fly. On recent research trips it was noted that this fly also had a very interesting side effect, in addition to tarpon, snook couldn't keep their mouths away from it.
